Interim Chief Finance Officer

Ian is a finance professional and experienced higher education leader, who has held senior roles in universities including University of Sussex, University of Southampton and University of Chichester where he was also Deputy Vice-Chancellor. His areas of expertise are strategic and operational finance, infrastructure funding and project delivery, change management, higher education policy, governance in higher education and academies, and stakeholder development and liaison. Ian has represented the sector on national committees and working groups.

He is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

Responsibilities

Leadership responsibility for:

  • The development and delivery of financial plans that underpin the university’s strategy and overall financial sustainability.
  • Financial oversight of resources and ensuring best value is achieved from university funds.
  • Delivery and relationship management for all financial matters to the Executive Board, the Board of Governors and its committees.
  • Cash and liquidity management, including raising financing to enable the University to meet its short, medium and long-term financial objectives.
  • Ensuring strong financial governance, including meeting the requirements of the OFS and other external stakeholders

Responsible for the line management of:

  • Finance (Financial Planning & Analysis, Financial and Research Accounting, Financial Systems, Payments, Payroll & Pensions and Income teams)
  • Procurement and Insurance services
